"I am an Athlete" Concussion Video
Concussions in athletes are a much more serious problem than has been recognized in the past. We now recognize that getting your "bell rung" is a brain injury that can take several days or more to heal. Recent studies show that they are more common and take longer to heal than previously thought. This can result in an increased risk of repeated concussions, prolonged symptoms, decreased academic performance and potentially permanent disability. This should concern everyone associated with sports as well as organizations that deal with brain injuries.
This website and the collaborative effort that it represents are about creating a "safety net" for athletes by providing an easily accessible resource to help improve concussion education, identification, assessment and management.
We welcome inquiries from and encourage the involvement of all health care professionals and clinicians involved in the care of athletes with head trauma. We also welcome the involvement of all sports and advocacy organizations that share our purpose.
This is an innovative effort. We are looking to grow and improve all aspects of both the WSCC and www.WIsportsconcussion.org . We welcome and are open to any constructive questions or comments you may have to help us improve.
